As you wander through the Longxing Future Residential Compound in Nanyuan Street, Linping District, Hangzhou, you’ll catch fascinating glimpses into the past. Bulletin boards and displays throughout the compound showcase historical artifacts unearthed in Linping, Yuhang, and other nearby areas. From a two-handled green glazed porcelain pot with ripple patterns dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty to a 5,000-year-old canoe, these artifacts offer a window into the rich history of the region.
Under the guidance of the Culture Officer Cao Lili, Linping Museum and Longxing Future Residential Compound have partnered to launch the “Bring Treasures of Linping Museum to Your Doorstep” campaign. This 12-phase initiative, starting in September, will highlight 12 artifacts from the museum’s collection to the residents of Longxing District through a series of cultural posters and videos. By sharing these historical treasures with the community, the campaign aims to offer a visually engaging and accessible cultural experience right at residents’ doorsteps.
Cao, a seasoned educator with over two decades of experience in youth outreach at the Linping Museum’s Social Service Department, became a district-level cultural commissioner this June. Drawing on her expertise, she is committed to cultivating a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage among a broader audience.
As one of the province’s first residential compounds with a future-focused design, Longxing is at the forefront of cutting-edge technology. Within this high-tech environment, Cao Lili faced a unique challenge: how to instill pride in Chinese culture and inspire a commitment to preserving China’s cultural heritage among residents.
After consulting with the compound’s Party committee and a field research, Cao launched the “Bring Treasures of Linping Museum to Your Doorstep” campaign. She enlisted researchers, experts, tour guides, and other professionals at the museum to help with the campaign. They collaborated to create engaging and informative videos and posters highlighting the cultural significance of each artifact in a manner that resonates deeply with the residents.
“Our goal is to bring a museum experience right to your doorstep,” stated Cao. “By working and sharing resources with the community, we aim to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment where residents can truly feel the magic of culture. We want to inspire people with the power of culture.” The first two phases of the campaign have been completed. Moving forward, Cao plans to establish the Longxing Future Museum, a space for museum lovers. It will offer a diverse range of programs, including exhibitions, lectures, and salons, to draw in more residents. Through these programs, visitors can uncover the stories behind artifacts, deepen their understanding of local history and culture, and contribute to the preservation of China’s cultural heritage.
