Hangzhou is now bursting with colors and spring lives. On April 10, the “Fragrant Azalea” Exhibition at the Botanical Garden was a highlight to the city’s landscape as part of the 2025 West Lake Flower Show.

The exhibition features two sections - an outdoor display area for planted rhododendrons and a showcase for potted blossoms.

The Maple-Rhododendron Garden is a place combining natural scenes with a display of potted rhododendrons. The garden primarily grows maple trees and azaleas, offering a panoramic view themed “Spring Azaleas, Autumn Maples.” Over 200 varieties of rhododendrons are planted on display here, including Rhododendron mucronulatum, Rhododendron pulchrum, and Rhododendron simsii, all blooming in clusters to cover entire fields.

On either side of the Fish Joy Pond, Chinese antique-style shelves and stands are placed at varying heights, creating a multi-layered display area. This area showcases over a hundred pots of rhododendron varieties, a dozen of medium-sized potted plants, and over thirty smaller ones. Notably, six exquisite pots from Suzhou’s Zhuozheng Garden define a graceful vibe. Each pot is a masterpiece that blends natural beauty with cultural elegance, inviting visitors into a world where art and nature harmonize.

Beyond the rhododendron displays, the exhibition also features rare and endangered plant species at Yuquan Yuyue, such as the Scalewood Tree, Davidia involucrata, Tianmu Ironwood, and Summer Wax Myrtle.
