The “Yoga-practicing Panda,” a popular landmark at the intersection of Tianmushan Road and Wantang Road in Xihu District, has recently donned a new spring outfit. The breathtaking 3D floral installation has drawn a big crowd appreciating the beautiful flowers and taking photos.

The “Yoga-practicing Panda” is now covered in a “rainbow mantle” composed of over 23,000 plants of hybrid superbells, at a density of 504 plants per square meter. Leveraging 3D flower arrangement techniques, this floral installation transforms flat beds into a stunning 3D visual spectacle. The rose colored flowers billow gracefully on the “giant panda” in a yoga posture, resembling flowing clouds from afar; up close, each trumpet-shaped flower has distinct layers. The base of the installation has also been redesigned to feature a mixed flower border, complemented by a dozen varieties such as Juicy Terrazza Rose and anise-scented sage, creating a gradient effect of springtime hues.

According to staff from Xihu District Bureau of Law Enforcement for Urban Management, hybrid superbells is a new cross between petunias and million bells, boasting a bloom count three times greater than conventional varieties. These flowers can survive high temperatures and heavy rainfall, suitable for the rainy spring season in Hangzhou. The best time to see the blossoms is before mid-June, and the floral installment will be dynamically maintained to ensure that the flowers bloom in full splendor through the early summer. The colors of the flowers look even more vibrant during early morning dew or after a gentle rain. Visitors are recommended to avoid peak travel times and go for green transport, taking Metro Line 3 to Gudang Station or cycling to the intersection of Tianmushan Road and Wantang Road. Please watch out for crowding and stay safe when taking photos.
